Project info:
Architected and implemented the migration of historical transactions and positions database, used for data analytics, for a financial services organization, prompted by the upcoming end-of-life of the on-premises hardware hosting the SQL engine and reporting.
The project successfully transitioned the analytics workload to a modern, serverless AWS cloud architecture. This involved migrating the vast dataset to Amazon S3 for durable and highly cost-effective storage. Amazon Athena was implemented to provide direct SQL querying of the data stored in S3 on a pay-per-query basis.
This provided power users with a tailored and intuitive way to execute queries via Athena when needed. This strategic move to AWS not only averted a costly hardware refresh cycle but also introduced significant operational cost efficiencies leveraging low S3 storage rates and the on-demand nature of the service.
